Server 2025 and RDP: black screen or no connection
Distinguish a connection failure from an established session whose display is not working correctly.

What to check
- Record the time, server build, RDP client and exact message. Check whether one user, one client or multiple sessions are affected.
- If the connection fails, have DNS resolution, the intended network path and Remote Desktop permissions checked. Include VPN and gateway details.
- If a connected session is black, review related event logs with the administrator. Evaluate forum workarounds against the specific environment first.
Before the next step
Plan server policy changes and restarts with the administrator. One forum report does not justify a blanket change across all servers.
